goiano who won in london

Estêvão Daltro Nosso Melhor

My friend André Luiz de Oliveira has an inspiring trajectory. Athlete and coach of artistic gymnastics, he was born in Goiás, but with his thirst for the world, he left for London in search of a new learning. He arrived willing to do whatever it took to win, and so began humbly on his journey of washing the dishes, as he relied on himself to provide for himself. After overcoming his language difficulties, he studied physical therapy and is now CEO of Hello. clinic, one of the most respected physiotherapy clinics in the British capital. This beautiful life story has always inspired me, and I had the honor to receive it in prose at Nosso Melhor this week.

Andrei believes that the planet is going through a transformational moment. Nations and peoples faced great changes in their economies and political and social arrangements. As an example, he adds: “Until recently, no one could have imagined that England would be outside the European Union.” For interviewees, the important thing is to be open to these changes, to face them head-on, and to do your best.

The former technical school in Goiás was the beginning of a process of personal and professional growth. The athlete went to study physical education. After a few years of work, in 1991 he left for England to study physical therapy. He started working as a dishwasher, where he stayed until he graduated from university there.

André Luiz is part of a family of “modern road pioneers”. His brothers Claudio and Mauricio were already flying around the world when he decided to leave for Europe to bypass what eyes could see. The beginning of the studies was very demanding, as language was still an obstacle. Gradually the tracks opened. After graduating in physical therapy, it was time to pursue the new profession. The targets were the top three hospitals in London. There were auditions and interviews, and although he was a foreigner, he managed to get one of the two available vacancies, out of more than 870 candidates at The Royal London. With discipline and self-drive, FThere were many conquests and frustrations, until he was able to establish himself professionally in the land of the queen.

Upon establishing his clinic, he began working with spine problems and rehabilitating athletes or those seeking to improve their athletic performance. Many of them were world-famous marathon runners, tennis players, wrestlers and athletes in various sports. The goal now is to reduce the pace of work, improve the balance between the various sectors of life, graduate his legacy, in Brazilian colors, into the old world and, who knows, bring units of his clinic to Brazil

He says that the secret of success lies in treating everyone in the best possible way, without knowing who to serve. Empathy and dedication generate results. Andrei is a man of science, but he always leaves open space for intuition and sensitivity, and I can attest that this made a huge difference in his life. She inherited this belief from Donna Miriam, who was always positive and assertive with her son. I remember as if today, her saying, “Are you going to stand there with your mouth open?” She was one of those Christians in practice.

With the recipe is to have good intentions, courage, overcome the fear he saw and win. Today, Andre Luiz is married to Liana, an Italian and they have three English daughters. Dear “nieces” Celeste, Solaris and Luna, who already say by their names where the parents rhyme. André has spent more time in London than in Goiânia, but is still a Goiás eater, and has a dream of bringing his family to live here for a while.

Stay steady and strong without walking, my friend. Keep honoring your family and Brazil wherever life takes you.
