“As soon as the water slightly touches my skin, I can actually feel a bubble forming, as if I’ve been bitten by a mosquito. When I’m in the shower, I usually try to stay in the water until the itching becomes unbearable, then I run off to dry off and try to avoid the more severe symptoms,” she says. .

Water allergy is a rare and chronic condition.

Watery urticaria is a rare form of chronic itching that occurs on contact with water. Although the origin of this condition is not fully understood, symptoms begin within minutes of contact with water, regardless of its temperature, and lead to severe redness.

The influencer’s itching crises sometimes lasted for hours, even as the skin dried out, prompting her to avoid showering for a few days. Treatment mainly consists of common antihistamines or, in more severe cases, corticosteroids.

“The prevalence of the disease is higher among females, with the onset of the disease during puberty or after puberty due to the immaturity of the immune system. However, there is still no definitive explanation as to why it reaches this audience more, ”explains Gabriela Andrade Coelho Dias, member of the Scientific Department of Urticaria ASBAI (Brazilian Society of Allergy and Immunology).

So yes, water allergy does exist, it’s a rare health condition, but it can affect anyone. Do you already know?
