Ubisoft has officially unveiled Rayman Legends Retold, a refreshed version of the acclaimed 2013 platformer, with the game set to launch on 1 October 2026 for Xbox Series X|S and other platforms.

The announcement arrived during Sony’s latest State of Play presentation, ending days of speculation after screenshots and release details appeared online ahead of schedule. The updated edition brings enhanced visuals, new gameplay features and bundled legacy content to one of Ubisoft’s most celebrated side-scrolling franchises.

Ubisoft Revives A Modern Platforming Classic

Originally released during the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 era, Rayman Legends earned widespread praise for its fast-paced platforming, hand-drawn art style and inventive musical levels. The title remains popular among players in the UK and across Europe, particularly for its local co-operative gameplay.

The newly announced Rayman Legends Retold aims to modernise that experience for current-generation hardware while introducing fresh content.

Ubisoft confirmed that the game will retail at £34.99 on the Xbox Store, while a Digital Deluxe Edition will also be available.

What’s Included In The Standard Edition

    The Standard Edition includes:

    • Rayman Legends Retold base game
    • Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition

The upgraded version of Rayman Origins features:

    • 4K resolution support
    • 60 frames-per-second gameplay
    • New collectibles and unlockable rewards
    • Additional quality-of-life improvements
    • Haptic feedback support for compatible controllers

Rayman Origins, first released in 2011, is widely regarded as one of Ubisoft’s strongest 2D platformers and helped revive interest in the franchise ahead of Legends.

Deluxe Edition Adds Retro Content And Bonus Features

The digital-only Deluxe Edition expands the package with additional cosmetic items and bonus content.

    Deluxe Edition Content

Players purchasing the Deluxe Edition will receive:

    • The base game
    • Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition
    • Retro Pack featuring four themed costumes
    • Digital art gallery

    The Retro Pack includes:

    • Classic Rayman Outfit
    • Betilla The Fairy Outfit for Barbara
    • Retro Hunter Outfit for Globlox
    • Electoon Teensie Outfit for Grand Minimus

Ubisoft says the remake includes “stunning 3D visuals” alongside a newly expanded story that introduces a mysterious new realm for players to explore.

Four-Player Co-Op And Musical Stages Return

Much of the original gameplay formula remains intact, including the series’ trademark blend of platforming, rhythm-based sequences and chaotic local multiplayer.

Players will once again be able to tackle the campaign solo or in up to four-player couch co-op — a feature that continues to appeal to families and group gaming sessions, particularly as split-screen and local multiplayer options have become less common in modern releases.

Ubisoft also confirmed the return of the popular Kung Foot competitive mode, alongside new dragon-riding sections and expanded musical stages.

According to the publisher, the game will feature:

    • Fully voiced cinematics
    • Expanded soundtrack
    • New gameplay sequences
    • Enhanced visual effects
    • Additional story content

Leak Appeared Ahead Of Official Reveal

Prior to the State of Play announcement, screenshots and release details surfaced online through social media posts and Xbox Store listings.

The leaked information accurately revealed the game’s 1 October release date and confirmed the inclusion of Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition.

The early appearance of the listing generated considerable excitement among long-time fans, many of whom have been waiting years for Ubisoft to revisit the Rayman franchise in a major way.

    A Strong Legacy On Xbox

Rayman Legends remains highly regarded more than a decade after its original launch and is currently available through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

At the time of release, the game received widespread critical acclaim for its imaginative level design and fluid gameplay. Many critics still consider it one of the strongest platform games of the Xbox 360 generation, alongside titles from Nintendo and indie developers that helped revitalise the genre during the early 2010s.

The announcement of Rayman Legends Retold signals Ubisoft’s continued interest in reviving established franchises for modern audiences, particularly as remasters and enhanced editions remain commercially successful across the industry.

    Conclusion

With upgraded visuals, bundled classic content and expanded co-operative features, Rayman Legends Retold looks set to introduce a new generation of players to one of Ubisoft’s most acclaimed platformers. For long-time fans, the return of Rayman may also mark the beginning of a broader revival for the series after years of relative silence.
