UK to increase vaccination for people over 50 years of age

The United Kingdom announced on Tuesday, the 14th, that it was offering the third dose of the vaccine against Govt-19 with comorbidities to all people over the age of 50. The ruling comes after an expert panel said boosters were needed to protect against immunity this winter.

Health Secretary Sajid Javed said the government had accepted the recommendation of the Joint Committee on Vaccines and Immunization (JCVI) and would start providing booster shots next week. Associated Press. However, the World Health Organization (WHO) has asked rich countries to postpone booster levels until all countries have vaccinated at least 40% of their population.

The JCVI said booster vaccines are needed to ensure people are protected from the disease because studies show that the immunity provided by the vaccines weakens over time.

The team recommended that everyone over the age of 50, and health workers, those with basic health conditions and people living with immunodeficiency, receive a booster injection at least six months after receiving the second dose of the vaccine.
