Brasilia – The United Kingdom sees Brazil as a strategic partner that seeks to expand and deepen co-operation on issues of bilateral relations and the international agenda. Peter Wilson, the British ambassador to Brazil, met this Tuesday (22) with the chairman of the Foreign Relations and National Security Council (CREDN), Deputy Acio News (PSDB-MG).

The two exchanged views on the current geopolitical structure and the threats posed by countries that do not share democratic values, such as Brazil and the United Kingdom. Wilson also announced that Dominique Robb, Secretary of State for Foreign and Development in the United Kingdom, will be in Brazil on July 14 and 15 to deal with the strengthening of bilateral relations.

Dominic Robb, on June 16, spoke with President Carlos Francia about a bilateral agenda on health, trade and the environment, a topic that is very popular among the British. According to Ambassador Peter Wilson, the UK wants Brazil as a partner in security and security matters.

According to CREDN President, the UK’s interest in deepening relations with Brazil could translate into opportunities in many areas, including trade and investment. “Climate issues affecting trade agreements and today, we have a number of challenges that prevent us from advancing towards the Mercosur-EU agreement,” Aceo News reported.

The Deputy pointed out that keeping an eye on the geopolitical changes in progress, the country is in the process of reviving the traditions of its diplomacy. “The United Kingdom wants a closer relationship with Mercosur and Brazil, and this interest must be seen under the strategic vision of our regional and global interests,” he said.
