The government establishes a committee to monitor monkeypox cases

The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovations (MCTI), was formed into have Advisory body, called Temporary Technical Research Chamber Pox MCTI CameraTo follow scientific developments on the monkeypox virus known as “monkeypox”.

The scientific monitoring procedure, through consultation with experts, is necessary in light of the cases of infection recorded in the United Kingdom, Portugal, Spain and the United States in May 2022. According to the ministry, so far, there are no records of smallpox cases of monkeys in Brazil.

The action follows the same idea of ​​forming the RedeVírus MCTI, a panel of experts established in February 2020, even before the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. The expert committee provides technical and scientific advice to the Ministry on strategies and needs in the field of science, technology and innovation needed in the field of health.

To date, the group consists of seven Brazilian specialists from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) and from the University of Vivel. The researchers released two technical reports on the disease, including the main forms of infection and information available on cases recorded in other countries.
