LONDON, April 22, 2022 (AFP) – Prince Edward, the youngest son of Elizabeth II, has canceled a trip to Grenada as part of a trip to the Caribbean that began on Friday (22) to celebrate his mother’s 70th anniversary. Reign, inform the royal house.

Last month, Prince William, the Queen’s 39-year-old grandson, had to cancel part of a trip to the Caribbean, skipping a visit to Belize, in what his spokesmen described as only “sensitive matters”.

The trip, which was meant to celebrate the British monarchy’s relationship with its former colonies and mark the Queen’s “Platinum Jubilee”, saw the resurgence of criticism of the monarchy. The Prince and his wife Catherine have been called to apologize for the past of slavery in the UK.

These claims point to troubled times for the British royal family, particularly when Prince Charles succeeded Elizabeth II on the throne.

Affected by mobility issues, the 96-year-old is making increasing space for her children, particularly Charles, 73, heir to the crown, and her grandson William, second in line.

Buckingham Palace said Edward, 58, and his wife Sophia had decided to postpone their visit to Grenada after consulting with the country’s government and on the advice of the governor-general.

Grenada is one of the 15 Commonwealth kingdoms over which Elizabeth II has sovereignty.

As part of the trip, which will last until Thursday (28), Edward and Sophia will visit Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Antigua and Barbuda, which are also the kingdoms of the British Commonwealth.
