But why is this happening? Not because the biker is capricious and doesn’t care about his bike. It’s not because they think they’re too special, and they don’t want to see a stuck bike. The truth is much less “romantic” and more frugal, and has more to do with collecting motorcycles.
Obviously, there are many users who don’t have roadside assistance. So when the bike breaks down, they leave it on the side of the road and drive away. The problem is that once a motorcycle is considered abandoned, the police can order the vehicle to be removed, given the law in force on the other side of the English Channel.

If that happens, the owner will obviously have to bear the economic costs of removing and storing the vehicle. So, to pick up the car immediately, you would have to pay 192 pounds, which is almost 225 euros at the current exchange rate. In addition, the deposit charges a maximum of 7 pounds per day for a week, which means that we are talking about another 106.33 euros for that week. So far, it’s already a value that can hurt your pocket, but things get ugly from day eight onwards.
Costs continue to rise when the bike is taken to storage facilities, and at that point the debt is so high that users don’t want to carry it. But the story doesn’t end there. Just because the owner disposes of the motorcycle does not automatically clear the outstanding debt. Moral of the story: It’s best to have ‘all risk insurance’ that covers motorcycle towing.
