Covid-19: The Ministry of Health confirms the first case of the ERIS variable in the country

the UK Health Safety Agency (Ukhsa) He stressed that the first cases of the new Covid-19 variable were discovered in England, while the virus is spread throughout the country.

According to Ukhsa, 13 cases of NB.1.8.1 were recorded in England, with “small numbers” in other parts of the UK.

It is still not clear that the number of new alternatives, which now represents slightly more than 10 % of global infections, is still in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.

Since it was first identified in January 2025, omicron NB.1.8.1 has spread to many US states, as well as countries like Australia and Thailand, which is currently the dominant alternative in China and Hong Kong.

The deputy director of Ukhsa, Dr. Gayatri Amirgham, said that there is no evidence that the new strain causes more dangerous panels than other variables.

Common symptoms are similar to the symptoms of other sub -variables of omicron, including fatigue, fever, muscle pain and sore throat, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

However, with a decrease in the number of Covid-19 tests, it is increasingly difficult to estimate the real number of infections.

The World Health Organization ranked NB.1.8.1 as a “variable within monitoring” and is estimated to represent about 10.7 % of the genetic series presented worldwide.

Although she appeared in samples earlier this year, data from Gisaid (Global Bank of Sequiers of APORTS) indicated that the first known cases were recorded at the end of April.

The vaccines currently available against Covid-19 should remain effective against this new variable and protect the affected by serious forms of the disease.

Dr. Gayatri Amrikham told the independent newspaper:

“It is normal for viruses to change and change over time. Ukhsa monitors all the data available on SARS-COV-2 variables in the UK and abroad, and we continue to publish our results in monitoring regular influenza and Covid-19.”

“Until now, NB.1.8.1 has been discovered in small numbers in the UK, but international data indicates that it grows as a percentage of Covid-19 cases.”

“Based on the information available so far, there is no evidence that this alternative causes a more severe disease than previous variables, nor that the vaccines currently used are less effective against them.”
