The House of Representatives Committee on Administration and Public Service will hold a public hearing on Tuesday (21) to discuss the implementation of the national minimum wage for nursing and the proposed new amendment to the Constitution of the Federal Senate, which establishes a 30-day working week for this category.
The discussion was requested by MP Alice Portugal (PCdoB-BA). It highlights that the Federal Supreme Court decided that the minimum nursing wage (Law 14434/22) should be based on a working day of 8 hours per day and 44 hours per week. The representative pointed out that “this working day does not exist either in the public service or in the private sector.”
The representative regrets the decision, which she considers a “maneuver” to prevent the implementation of the minimum wage approved by the legislative authority. “Although nursing professionals face grueling working hours, often in very adverse conditions, achievements in this category have made it possible for professionals to have shorter working hours, especially in a difficult, stressful and very vulnerable profession,” said Alice Portugal.
