Archaeologists have discovered what appears to be the oldest oven ever found in the UK. The object was located in Northumbria, a county north of the present-day territory of England. Unburned loom weights were also discovered next to it, which were used to tighten threads during the weaving process.

An important shopping center in the United Kingdom

According to the researchers, this discovery is essential for a better understanding of how UK residents lived in the past. The team also found an old building. The structure could have been built using large columns.

All materials were located near Felton. This was also the site of the discovery of many other ancient objects.

The latest excavations, the third in a row, indicate that the area was an important Anglo-Saxon center in the seventh century. According to archaeologists, this could have been an important trading center where people exchanged various goods. This explains the discovery of buildings used for handicrafts, as well as the use of a kiln.

    Viking discoveries

    • Previous excavations have also uncovered ancient artefacts at the site, which included pieces of lead from the Viking Age.
    • This suggests that the area was occupied by part of the large Scandinavian army that attacked the United Kingdom.
    • Researchers say they will continue to work in the area looking for new discoveries.
    • The information is from BBC.
