At the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties (Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change), in Dubai, the government of Mato Grosso do Sul launched the “Carbon Control” platform, on Sunday (3). The Carbon Control System creates a public record of the balance of carbon emissions to enable the plan to reach 2030 with a carbon neutral status.

This means reducing carbon emissions, where possible, and offsetting the rest through offsetting, which can be done by purchasing carbon credits, restoring forests in degraded areas and other measures.

According to the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Jaime Virock, the platform was launched through a presentation that demonstrated the innovation and sustainability of the country’s actions to the world.

“It is a program that has caught the attention of many other countries, as well as some countries that have heard it. “We had the opportunity to make this presentation in the hall of the British Council, which was fundamental for us to show Mato Grosso do Sul to the world,” commented the Minister, referring to the institute. General cultural in the United Kingdom, which in addition to spreading knowledge about the English language, seeks to improve the country’s external relations.

It is the third day of participation of the delegation of Member States in the twenty-eighth session of the Conference of the Parties. According to Executive Secretary for the Environment, Arto Valset, a discussion on climate finance took place on Sunday.

“The big challenge that we all face is how to make this money that is at one end, in the private sector, usually, and how to connect with the public sector in our country, which is usually at the forefront of major climate action,” he explained.

“MS carbon neutral” – The project develops and adapts technologies to reduce and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions in various sectors of the economy, which contributes to achieving the goals of Proclima (the state climate change programme). There are many agricultural actions already underway through soil and water management and conservation, low-carbon livestock farming, renewable energy, sustainable agricultural practices, and eliminating illegal deforestation.

The government also has a MS Renovável (State Incentive Scheme for the Development of Renewable Sources of Energy Production), which is a general policy to encourage renewable energy production activities.
