Finally, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has taken the initiative to expand his Horizon Worlds beyond the global hadsets Virtual reality, also available on smartphones and personal computers.
A social platform based on 3D avatars Announce In a post on the official Meta blog on September 15 that made the first Meta Horizon world available for mobile and web in early access.
The only experience available at the moment is Super Rumble, a shooter released in late July that allows players to come together in quick five-minute contests. Meta stated that new experiences and worlds will be available on the platform in the coming months.
At launch, only a few people will be able to access it on the web or in the Meta Quest Android app. iOS is scheduled to launch in the next few weeks.
“Early access will be rolled out to more people gradually as we collect user feedback and develop the experience,” Meta said.
“The metaverse should be accessible to everyone, regardless of the device they use,” the tech giant added in its statement.
“And while Quest headsets are the most complete and immersive way to access the metaverse, we believe there should be multiple entry points.”
Meta said bringing Worlds to more devices will bring the experience to more users. Meta has not released any public statistics on its monthly active users, but a report from The Wall Street Journal in October 2021 Proposal Which was less than 200,000.
The Meta social platform is still only available in Canada, France, Iceland, Ireland, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Interestingly, blockchain-based metaverse platforms including Decentraland and The Sandbox started their journey in the opposite direction.
Both were first released as web-based experiences on personal computers. Decentraland launched its browser-based 3D virtual world in February 2020, and The Sandbox launched Alpha on PC in November 2021. Both have yet to have an official VR version.

Meanwhile, Horizon Worlds’ meta avatars have finally received a long-awaited upgrade: virtual legs.
Initially, Zuckerberg was the target of criticism after the platform launched. Experts criticized the company for not being able to even provide virtual legs for its avatars despite the company’s huge investment in the metaverse. During Connect 2022, Meta promised to integrate the legs into an update in 2023.
The legs were actually introduced to Quest Home Space a few weeks ago as an update to beta v57, but some users have reported that the legs have now made their way into the Horizon Worlds app.
