The National Cancer Institute (Inca) will integrate the international initiative “Women in Science”. In partnership with the universities of São Paulo and Birmingham, in England, the Inca, which is linked to the Department of Health, will, over the course of this year, develop policies and practices to increase the role of women in places such as research, technology and institutions. Science.

The partnership provides knowledge exchange between the English University and the University of the South Pacific and the Incas. In February, the first seminar will be held in which the three institutions will participate.

A first step will be to identify the main problems of inequality in the occupation of jobs by men and women and seek expertise from partner institutions that already have an existing gender equality program in place, says Mariana Burrone, head of the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Laboratory at INCA.

Among the proposals already submitted by students, researchers and professionals involved in the work is the joint network “Women in Science”, which will provide meetings to discuss the topic. In addition, new digital resources and personal training will be created to aid in continuing professional development.

The Women in Science Initiative was founded by British Council, which developed the project “Promoting and Strengthening Gender Equality in Higher Education: A British-Brazilian Perspective”.
