The UK Bible Society publishes Bibles for people with dyslexia

The UK Bible Society has, for the first time, made the entire Bible available in an accessible format for people with dyslexia. The initiative began in 2015 with the Book of Psalms and the Gospel of Mark. Recently, the books of Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy and Joshua have been published. Dyslexia is considered a learning disorder that causes difficulty in reading and writing. According to the Bible Society, around 6 million people in the United Kingdom – one in ten of the population – are estimated to have the disorder. For these people, reading the Bible can be a challenge because the scriptures are often produced on thin paper and densely printed letters.
In the “Good News Dyslexia-Friendly Bible”, this format is favorable for people with dyslexia, instead of traditional columns, the paragraphs are shorter. Larger font, sans serif (small strokes and extensions at the end of letter stems) and more space between lines. This helps reduce visual clutter. The paper used is thicker so that the words do not appear on the next page and the finish is matte rather than glossy, which reduces light reflection.
