Neil Robertson survives Lei Peifan's qualms to stay on track at the British Open

Defending champion Neil Robertson reached the last 16 of the British Open after defeating Le Bevan.

The 40-year-old won 4-3 despite Bevan hitting three consecutive centuries to force a decision on Tuesday.

Robertson led 3-0, but Bevan made it 3-3 with breaks of 136, 134 and 121, only for Robertson to take frame seven with a break of 67.

Robertson joined Judd Trump, who beat Craig Steadman 4-1, and Mark Selby after his 4-2 victory over Joe O’Connor.

UK Championship winner Mark Allen beat Dylan Emery 4-1.

Ali Carter beat Chen Zifan 4-0, Ding Junhui won his second round match over Xu Si 4-1, and John Higgins beat Mark King 4-1.

Marco Fu, the UK runners-up in 2008, reached the last 16 by beating Jamie Robertson 4-1 after going two years without playing between February 2020 and April 2022 amid the Covid pandemic and eye surgery.

“It’s good to be back competing and playing at a decent level. I’ve missed a lot of tournaments over the past few years.”

“I like being around the other players, they are like a snooker family. But when the trips are so long it becomes mentally difficult, and I don’t feel very well.

“The last time I came to the UK, I had to stay for three months because of Hong Kong’s quarantine policy.”
