    Buenos Aires, June 22 (EFE) .- Argentine Foreign Minister Felipe Sole on Tuesday asked United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to mediate with the United Kingdom in resuming talks on the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands.

    During a meeting with Guterres in New York, the Minister reiterated his support for the so-called “good office work” entrusted to the Secretary-General by the General Assembly, aimed at bringing Argentina and the United Kingdom back to the negotiating table.

    “This is in accordance with the mandate established and re-enacted in several resolutions of this Assembly and its Special Colonial Committee,” the Argentine Foreign Ministry said in a statement issued today.

    UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon Sole is in New York this Thursday to attend a session of the Colonial Committee.

    Sole and Guterres also discussed the dietary preparation process for the summit, which seeks to take global action to change diets and reduce related diseases.

    The meeting was also attended by the Minister, along with Malvinas of Argentina, Antarctica and the Secretary General of the South Atlantic, Daniel Pilimus, and Maria del Carmenschef, Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
