What year! We are approaching the first anniversary of Ghost of Tsushima and we are very grateful for all the affection we have received since its release. It’s really great to see how Jin’s story resonates with all of you, and we feel so lucky to have such dedicated and welcoming fans.

We’ve put a lot of thought into how to expand Jin’s story, and we’ve also spent the past year reviewing all of his comments on how we can improve the Ghost of Tsushima experience. We’ve worked hard to create a new version of the game, which not only includes a new chapter in Jin’s Journey, but also introduces some updates that are a direct response to some of the features most requested by the community.

We’re excited to announce that on August 20, we will be releasing Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Edition for PS5 and PS4 consoles. This remake features not only the original game and all the additional content we’ve released so far, but also a new adventure for Jin and a bunch of new features that we can’t wait to reveal.

Iki Island

If you are a history buff, you may know that Iki Island, which is adjacent to Tsushima, was also conquered during the same period. We are thrilled to reveal today that a whole new chapter in Jin’s journey is coming and that the story will take place in Iki. In this new adventure, Jin travels to the island to investigate rumors of a Mongol presence there. But he soon finds himself embroiled in events that pose deeply personal issues that will force him to relive painful moments from his past.

We’ll soon have more to share about Iki’s story, but today we can confirm that in addition to an all-new story and new characters, the new island also features a lot of brand-new content, including environments to explore, and armor. Jane and his horse, mini-games, techniques, enemy types and much more. There are even new pets for pets!

On both platforms, the Director’s Edition will also offer brand new prizes, which will be unlocked with new Iki content.

PS5 exclusive features

Anyone who plays the director’s version on both PS4 and PS5 will be able to try out the Iki Island content, but people using the PlayStation 5 will have access to some additional features.

We’ve heard your comments about lip-sync with the Japanese dubbing in the original version of Ghost of Tsushima, and we’ve worked hard to address that in this new version. Thanks to the PS5’s real-time scene rendering capability, scenes in Ghost of Tsushima and Iki Island on PS5 are now in sync with Japanese dubbing.

We’re also happy to confirm that Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, and the new expansion of Iki Island will all benefit from haptic response and adaptive stimuli in the director’s release. There will also be 3D audio improvements* for PS5, as well as significantly improved load time, 4K resolution options** and frame rates with the ability to reach 60fps.

transfer progress

If you already own Ghost of Tsushima for PS4, you can transfer your progress to PS5 and pick up where you left off. For those who are just starting to play, all-new content from Iki Island will be available starting in Chapter 2 of the Ghost of Tsushima, once you arrive in the Toyotama area.

And for those of us who tweet us all the time asking about the option to hide a quiver during a match: Yes, we’ll be adding this feature too!

Finally, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends fans, we will also be releasing new updates, including a mode full of new features that we can’t wait to detail in the coming weeks. All updates to Ghost of Tsushima: Legends*** will be freely available to anyone who owns any version of Ghost of Tsushima, regardless of platform.
