For the first time in 35 years, the amount spent on vinyl sales exceeded that of CDs in the UK. CD sales are declining year over year, but demand for LPs continues to grow. According to the newspaper GuardianVinyl numbers have continued to grow for 15 years and reached 5.5 million units this year.

The Midnights album also broke another record. With over 800,000 copies sold worldwide, it was the first LP to sell equivalent sales to its CD counterpart in three decades.
