Elton John’s last UK TV show attracted 7.3 million viewers |  Pop

The last show of the leisure trip Elton John In the United Kingdom, Barwell Yellow Brick RoadIt was a huge hit with the public.

One of the best-selling artists of all time, John, 76, is skipping the tour after his current gigs and has opted to take the famous Pyramid stage at the top British festival. In the show, he sang old hits “Little Dancer”, “Rocket Man” and “Your Song”.

In addition to the Worthy Farm crowd of more than 100,000, John’s BBC show surpassed the 2.5 million viewers who followed Paul McCartney’s late-night show last year.

“I never thought I’d be playing at Glastonbury. Here I am,” John told the crowd. “It’s a very special and emotional night for me because it’s probably my last show in England and England.”

Dressed in gold and wearing one of his many quirky glasses, Elton John performed hits like “I’m Still Standing” and “I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues.”

John has just a handful of shows left in the final weeks of his farewell tour with dates in France, Switzerland, Denmark and Sweden.

Tribute to George Michael

The show’s closing song, “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me,” was dedicated to the late musician George Michael, who would have turned 60 this Sunday. “Today is a very special day and I’ve been thinking about how I’m going to approach it,” Elton said.

“George Michael is one of the most amazing British singer-songwriters. He’s my friend, an inspiration, and he’d be 60 today, so I’d like to dedicate this song to his memory. All the songs he left us are so beautiful. . This is for you, George,” the singer added. .
