Canadian instructors were sent to England to train soldiers

ÇAbout 225 members of the Canadian Armed Forces will be based in the UK for an initial four-month period, Anand said.

They will work with the armies of Great Britain, Holland and New Zealand on the training and basic education of Ukrainian soldiers.

A Canadian military training mission based in Ukraine was suspended weeks before the start of the Russian invasion, which began on February 24.

The mission, which also includes 225 Canadian military instructors, was launched in 2014 after Moscow annexed the Crimean peninsula and began supporting pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine.

The Ottawa government says the mission, known as Operation Unifier, helped train more than 30,000 Ukrainian troops before Canadian troops were withdrawn.
