London, UK- Manchester United coach Eric Ten Hag announced, on Wednesday (26/10), that French defender Raphael Varane will not return to play with the England national team until before the World Cup due to a thigh injury, which raises concerns about his presence in Qatar.

“He won’t be available until the World Cup, so he won’t be playing for Manchester United at that time,” Ten Hag told a press conference ahead of the Europa League match against Sheriff Tiraspol on Thursday.

When asked if the player can compete in the World Cup, the coach replied: “I think so, but we have to wait to see the prognosis (from the doctors). We have to see how he develops and how he recovers,” he explained.

Last Tuesday (24/10), the coach of the French national team, Didier Deschamps, did not rule out calling the defender even if he did not return to play before the cup, but he considers that his full recovery is necessary before the cup. The first match of ‘Bleus’ is against Australia on November 22nd.
