British MP Don Boulder has defected from the ruling Conservative Party to the opposition Labor Party in a blow to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak ahead of local elections that could put further pressure on his leadership.
Sunak's Conservatives are 20 points behind Labor in opinion polls ahead of a national election later this year.
Poulter said the government's record with the state-run National Health Service (NHS) – one of Chung's five priorities for the country – means he can no longer represent the Tories.
“It is clear to me that only Labor has the will and confidence to reform the NHS. That is why we need a Labor government,” Poulter said in an article in the Observer newspaper. Next election.
Labor leader Keir Starmer said it was “fantastic” to welcome Boulder to the party.
“Across the country, more and more people are switching to Labor because they know that only this transformed Labor Party can deliver the change Britain needs,” he said in a statement.
“I am very pleased that Dan has decided to join us on this journey.”
