A customer leaves a tip of about 80,000 Brazilian riyals in an American restaurant | Scientist

A customer who ordered some sausage, marinated fries and drinks at a New Hampshire restaurant left a huge tip – $16,000 (about R$79,500).

The team didn’t notice at first, Mike Zarrella, owner of Stumble Inn Bar and Grill in Londonderry, told NBC affiliate WMUR-TV. The original bill was $37.93 (about R$190).

“It was on the credit card statement, and they put it face down next to the cash register and said three times, ‘Don’t spend it all in one place.'” An employee then flipped the paper over and looked, “and she said something like, ‘Oh my God,'” Zarella said. Are you serious?” And he said, “I want you to have this, you work hard.”

Zarella thought it was a mistake, but the bar manager spoke to the customer who said no. He also wanted to remain anonymous.

The restaurant had been closed for a few months during the pandemic and was content with takeout and al fresco dining orders.

The team plans to split the money with their co-workers.

“The back of the house runs a lot, the kitchen, and the attendants tend to them a lot, and that’s very generous of them,” Zarella said.
