An abandoned Boeing 737 is a strange mystery still planted in the middle of a field in Bali, Indonesia, and to this day, no one knows how it ended up there. The plane is located in a limestone quarry near the Raya Nusa Dua Selatan Highway, just a short drive from the famous Pandawa Beach.

As is often the case with the strange and unexplained, many theories circulated as to how the plane got there. The most popular among the locals is that the Boeing was originally installed by a wealthy businessman. Legend has it that he wanted to turn it into a restaurant, but ran out of money before he could finish and left the plane parked in the square.

However, this theory has not been confirmed by the authorities.

The defunct plane has intrigued many urban explorers over the years, hoping to experience something a little different on their travels. Unfortunately, it is fenced off and only available for viewing from one vantage point.

Interestingly, however, there is another Boeing 737 stranded in Bali that is available for viewing. Located near a branch of Dunkin’ Donuts, the car is believed to have been around since 2007, with rumors suggesting it was already set to become a restaurant. This second desert plane was used as an event venue in 2018 and now remains a fascinating item for visitors to explore.

For those interested in visiting the first Boeing (which no one knows how it ended up there), Tony Dunnell, of Atlas Obscura, offered some directions, saying it’s “easy to get to” as long as you can “spot it from the road.” He explained that the highway obstructs the plane’s view, so you have to keep your eyes open, otherwise you could miss it easily.

When you come across a wall of shipping containers on the side of the road, you’ve arrived. You can see the plane climb inside the containers that surround it.
