Teams from the Ministry of Health (MS), the Secretary of State for Health (Sesa) and the Municipal Epidemiological Surveillance that confirmed the delta variant cases on Saturday (10) started the extensive research work with the aim of evaluating the scenario in the state.

Paraná has seven confirmed cases by genetic sequencing conducted by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation. The cases are Apucarana (4), Rolândia (1), Mandaguari (1) and Francisco Beltrão (1). To date, Paraná has no community transmission. “Parana is interested in all actions aimed at determining the presence and spread of variants in the state, as this work will support epidemiological measures in light of the situation of the Covid-19 epidemic,” said Minister of State for Health, Black Peto.

The teams formed two fronts for investigative work, one in Francisco Beltrao and the other in Londrina. In Londrina, cases related to Rolândia, Mandaguari and Apucarana will be investigated.

The Ministry of Health researchers belong to the Training Program in Epidemiology Applied to Unified Health System Services (EpiSus). The first newsletter about the investigation will be issued after the first 48 hours of the investigation. Over the weekend, teams from Sesa Surveillance and municipalities with confirmed cases will detail each case, in an effort to expand the investigation to include potential new contacts in each person’s network.

Information provided by Sesa and municipal monitoring teams will be compiled by department investigators and will refer to fieldwork, with interviews and tracking surveys.

EpiSus will apply the same investigation methodology to both the two investigative fronts, Londrina and Francisco Beltrao, and the first measure will be a comprehensive search for people who may, at some point, between April and June, have established any kind of contact with confirmed cases, even if minimal contact , after 15 minutes of proximity, for example in clinical service, or at work; Everything is valid to inquire.

MS investigators provide this type of support with states and municipalities in various situations related to health surveillance. Most recently, EpiSus was in Roraima and Maranhão, also in the research work related to the epidemic that required a rapid response.

Another goal of the investigation is to detect active cases of Covid-19, regardless of the alternative, so that transmission can be prevented.

Data – Paraná has so far 674 sequenced samples, 422 of which are for the P.1 variant (Gamma, Brazilian). Among these samples, a patient collected two samples at different times, with P.1 present in both, and counted only once. Therefore, 421 cases of P.1 were considered; 1 case from P.1.1 and 4 from P.1.2. For variant B.1.1.7 (Alpha – UK), there are 10 confirmed results. For variant B.1.617.2 (Delta – Indian), 7 have been confirmed so far.
