Geneva, June 21 (EFE). – The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Monday that cases of COVID-19 in Japan are currently at low levels, but indicated that it will continue to contact Japanese authorities due to the possibility of an audience at the Olympics.

“We will continue to hold meetings this week to analyze actions to be taken regarding diagnosis, tracing, physical distancing, ventilation and other measures related to the Olympic Games,” said WHO Director of Health Emergencies, Mike Ryan. Press Conference.

The Irish specialist stated that the incidence of the disease in Japan is relatively low, and even lower than in countries hosting international sports competitions. Although Ryan did not mention which country, Brazil hosts the Copa America and several European cities host the European Cup matches.

“In recent weeks, the case rate in Japan has reached 80 per million people. The number is three times higher in the United States, 30 times in Brazil, 11 times in the United Kingdom, and nine times higher in Russia,” he commented.

Japanese authorities have announced that the public will be able to attend the stadiums for the Tokyo Olympics, despite the contrary recommendations from some experts. The state of health emergency that was in place until then was suspended in the capital and in other areas of the country on Monday.
