    Investing.com – United Kingdom stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher.

    By London's close, the index was up 0.63%.

    The best performers of the session on the index came from shares of RS Group plc (LON: ), which rose 3.69% or 26.00 points to trade at 731.00 at the close of the session. Meanwhile, shares of SSE PLC (LON: ) added 3.51% or 61.00 points to end the day at 1.00, and the shares Bunzl PLC ( LON: ), which advanced 3.45% or 100.00 points to close at 2.00.

    The worst performers of the session were stocks JD Sports Fashion PLC ( LON: ), which declined 2.20% or 2.65 points to trade at 117.85 at the close. Ashted Group PLC (LON:) was down 2.00% or 110.00 points to end at 5.00, and Date fruit PLC (LON: ) declined 1.23% or 17.50 points to 1.00.

    On the London Stock Exchange, gainers outnumbered decliners by 1165 to 619, while 713 ended unchanged.

    Gold futures for August delivery rose 0.64%, or 15.00, to $2.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere, crude for delivery in August rose 0.78%, or 0.62, to settle at $80.34 a barrel, while Brent crude futures for delivery in August rose 0.80%, or 0.67, to $84.92 a barrel.

    GBP/USD was unchanged 0.02% at 1.27 and EUR/GBP was up 0.10% at 0.85.

    The dollar futures index, meanwhile, rose 0.07% to 104.88.
