    Joinville's secretary compares hospital queues to going to the beach; video

    Tania Eberhardt, health minister of Joinville, the city with the highest number of dengue deaths in Santa Catarina, compared the queues at hospitals to the time it takes residents to reach the beaches in the summer.

    The city has recorded 19 deaths due to dengue fever as of Friday (12) and is recording queues and increased demand for units.

    21 doctors resigned

    During the Health Committee meeting, the Secretary also highlighted that in addition to the increasing demand for care, the municipality is dealing with a large number of dismissals. Since January, 21 doctors resigned.

    According to information from the City Council, not all resignations are directly related to increased patient demand, as some professionals choose to leave due to personal issues, accommodation or other professional opportunities.

    Santa Catarina has been in a state of emergency due to dengue fever since February. With a total of 82 deaths confirmed as of Friday. In addition, there are 36 deaths under investigation, adding to the more than 140,000 possible cases.
