An old Boeing 747 plane has been converted into a hotel at Stockholm Arlanda Airport in Sweden, giving “travelers” the opportunity to stay overnight at prices starting from 40 euros.
The interior of the aircraft has been renovated, preserving the original rooms and common areas. One of the most innovative rooms is the suite built in the cabin of former pilots. There, the control panel remains intact, as it was during Boeing flights, but now it only overlooks the Swedish airport.
In an interview with CNN Brasil, the owner of Jumbo Stay, Oscar Dios, revealed that 60% of the guests are foreigners, while the remaining 40% are Swedes. They are “curious guests looking for an experience they won't find in a regular hotel,” he said, adding that they are generally looking for “a quiet, enjoyable night on board.”
Jumbo Stay opened 15 years ago, in 2009, and has been a huge success ever since. To make it open to the public, the plane's 450 seats were removed, making room for 33 rooms with a total of 76 beds.
Accommodations include male and female dormitories, standard rooms and suites. According to the hotel's official website, prices range from 40 euros for rooms with four beds and a shared bathroom in the lobby, up to more than 160 euros per night in the most luxurious suite, with a double bed and private bathroom, which is located at the back of the hotel.
