The agreement guaranteeing the payment of minimum nursing wages to about 150,000 workers in private hospitals in the state of Minas Gerais was signed on Tuesday (25), in Belo Horizonte. The agreement was signed after six months of negotiations mediated by the oversight body of the Ministry of Labor in the state. It is expected that the floor will be paid in three installments.
The first, i.e. 40% of the total due, will be disbursed in the October payroll, which will appear in the worker’s account in November. Two more installments of 30% each are scheduled to be paid in March and September of next year. The agreement was signed at an event held in Bairro Santo António, in the central and southern region of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
According to Carlos Calazans, supervisor of the Minas Ministry of Labor, it will not be possible to meet all the demands of workers and employers. Therefore, it was necessary to reach a compromise.
“It’s a huge category, of enormous value. They are nurses and (nursing) technicians, taking care of patients, hospitals and people’s lives. We started discussions and the hospitals claimed they didn’t have the resources to take on the whole job. The workers said: ‘The floor is there and we want it.’” The stalemate will be endless. “He’s in court, with the lawsuits. So I said: Let’s negotiate and discuss and see what’s possible.”
Director of the Federation of Health Institutions and Services in Minas Gerais, Rogerio Fernandez, stated that the agreement provides guarantees for nurses, including in the event that the employment contract is eventually interrupted.
“It was very important to also ensure that if an employee is fired, the minimum wage will be paid in full upon termination. This gives workers stability,” he noted.
Gilmar Ferraz Oliveira, president of Central Dos Hospitals in Minas Gerais, explained that the long negotiation time was due to trying to conclude a deal that would actually be workable for the health homes.
He celebrated, saying: “We were able to reach an installment plan that pleased both parties and made the agreement viable.”
The agreement was reached just over a month after the deadline set by the Supreme Federal Court (STF) for employers and nurses from the private network to reach a collective agreement.
In cases where the parties do not reach common sense, the STF demonstrates that what was agreed at the National Conference remains valid.
