    Icebreaker project

Unlike with the Tesla Cybertruck, Tesla has an electric promise that is already coming true. Dubbed the Tesla Semi, it is Elon Musk’s electric truck.

At the end of 2022, Tesla delivered the first sold units of its electric truck to PepsiCo, and many large companies are already evaluating the use of this type of truck, but the problem is that it has several disadvantages.

On the one hand, if we, the general public, believe that these shortcomings are limited to recharging time and limited autonomy, then there are other problems.

The battery pack weighs at least five tons, which reduces the truck’s load by 20% and causes up to $50,000 in lost revenue annually because of all that weight.

Therefore, the ICEBreaker project wants to build competitive trucks over 40 tons that are powered by hydrogen, so that you don’t have to lose all that space and weight carrying batteries back and forth.

The Confederation of British Business says there are about 500,000 trucks there, creating more than 19% of the country’s total emissions.

They also claim that it pollutes too much, even disproportionately, so they want to solve the problem with hydrogen-powered trucks.

The idea is to run the prototype for tests by the end of 2024, and computer images revealed by the group indicate that the truck in question will have a highly aerodynamic design, similar to that of the Tesla Semi.

The cabin is round and the side mirrors are equipped with cameras to improve aerodynamics. Little is known about what the prototype will look like in terms of the technology under the hood, but the ICEBreaker consortium wants to radically improve the efficiency of hydrogen engines to produce lighter, more fuel-efficient trucks.
