João Gomes Cravinho and James Cleverly, the two diplomatic leaders, signed the document, a tool for developing joint initiatives in developing countries, after a meeting in London this morning.

The meeting’s agenda also includes cooperation on issues such as climate change, security and trade.

The Portuguese minister was in the United Kingdom for two days as part of the celebration of the 650th anniversary of the Luso-British alliance, the oldest diplomatic alliance in force.

The Treaty of London, signed on June 16, 1373, paved the way for a trade relationship that moved 11,600 million pounds (13,600 million euros at current exchange rates) in 2022, more than double that of 2021, the Ministry of Commerce indicated to British expats. In the report.

London and Lisbon plan to sign a new bilateral security agreement later this year.

Portugal and the United Kingdom have already expressed interest in resuming bilateral relations following the United Kingdom’s exit from the European Union (EU).

In 2022, Prime Minister Antonio Costa was welcomed by his Minister of State Boris Johnson in London and the two signed a “Joint Declaration on Bilateral Cooperation between Portugal and the United Kingdom”.

This document covers the areas of foreign policy, cooperation, research, environment, defense, security, science, investment, trade, research, education and security for Portuguese residents in the United Kingdom and British residents in Portugal.

The Declaration defines the framework for Portuguese-British bilateral relations, although numerous areas remain restricted within the framework of relations between the EU and the United Kingdom.
