Despite not being part of the G7 (France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Italy and Canada), the Brazilian Head of State was invited, as well as representatives from other countries, including Australia and Indonesia, for example. This will be the president’s sixth international trip, who has visited eight countries in the previous five trips.
The first visit as the country’s president took place already on January 22, when the president went to Argentina to take part in the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States. On the same trip he also traveled to Uruguay. In Argentina, in addition to President Alberto Fernandez, Lula met with the President of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel, among others. In Uruguay, he met President Luis Lacalle Poe.
Then, in February, Lola went to the United States. Between February 9 and 11, he met with US President Joe Biden to discuss bilateral and global issues.
In April, Lola traveled to China. The flight was postponed due to mild pneumonia in Brazil and took place between April 13th and 14th. There, Lula attended the inauguration of former President Dilma Rousseff in charge of the new development bank, Banco dos BRICS, and met Chinese leader Xi Jinping, among other authorities. On the way back from that trip, he stopped in the United Arab Emirates and met Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Between April 21 and 25, Lula was in Portugal and Spain. At the first destination, he met Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo and Prime Minister Antonio Costa. He also presented the Camões Award to Chico Buarque. In Spain he met the head of government, Pedro Sánchez and King Felipe VI.
Lula’s last trip abroad so far was to the UK. In London, he attended the coronation of King Charles III. He had earlier met Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
