Around 100,000 British nurses are on strike this Thursday (15). They demanded a better proposal for salary restructuring and recruitment of more specialists to the National Health Service (NHS), the public health system in the United Kingdom.

The movement was convened by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), the country’s largest nurses’ union, in the largest strike in the 106-year history of union representation.

This year, the RCN rejected the government’s offer of an average 4.3% hike in wages, down from 10.7% in November, below inflation. Another strike will be held next Tuesday (20).

Members of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s Conservative Party are demanding talks with the nurses. In an interview with the British channel, former leader Jack Perry said “the government needs to improve its programme”.

“The nurses union itself is asking for 19% [de

Other types of workers, such as railway workers, have crossed their arms in England this year in what is the biggest movement of strikes for workers in the sector in the country in 30 years.
