Crissy Whalin, 42, has led a busy life as a radio producer in Los Angeles. She lived well, but as I described her, she was in a “rat race”. The bills would come in, and she would pay and kill herself working three jobs to be able to keep everything and pay for the next month’s expenses again. She explained that she spent about 30,000 Brazilian reais per month on housing, food, health, entertainment, a car and education for her son Zephyr, 13. But rather than plunge into more debt, Chrissy decides to make a drastic change in her life and leave everything to travel the world with her son.

“I was miserable, I couldn’t keep up with the rat race in Los Angeles. So when I lost my main income in January 2018, I decided to reevaluate life and see what was most important to me and my son. Zephyr fell in love with Paris when we went in 2016 and at the time He suggested we travel the world together. Losing my job allowed me to turn his dream into reality as I still had a part-time remote job as a radio producer and another in a photography studio.”, she said in an interview with the sun.

The producer had some savings and used it to start the tour, buying two round-trip tickets to Paris, France. Take a breath,” he says. Once I mentally decided we were going, things started happening,” he says.

She says her goal now is to spend the equivalent of R$40 per day, everywhere she goes with her son. “We had so much fun with the money and without it, Zephyr saw the budget as both a challenge and a game,” he explains. Together, the two traveled through Europe, South America, Africa and Asia, visiting a total of 40 countries and 123 different cities.

Sometimes the budget gets shorter, depending on what remote jobs Crissy gets. “I was so broke when we were in the UK that my savings were running out and there was an error in my payroll for 12 weeks. Some of the best times were when we were broke,” he says.

Chrissy also said that she is responsible for her son’s education, homeschooling, and thus, the two of them get on with life.

Recently, the itinerant duo helped Ukrainian refugees in Gdansk, Poland. “We can only help. I feel so proud that we participated and helped raise the money and donations and distribute it all to the refugees who have lost everything. It was so heartbreaking – especially for my son.”

Currently, the mother and son are in New Orleans, United States, and they still don’t know what their next destination will be.
