In an interview with CNN RadioVirologist and researcher at Fiocruz Amazônia, Felipe Naveca, has assessed that the cases identified so far of the Ômicron variant have mild symptoms and this could hinder the discovery of the new strain.

So far, 12 cases have been identified in the country. Virologist that another micron infection is likely to be present. “The confirmed cases so far are of people with mild symptoms, which are difficult to detect, and the people themselves do not recognize that they are sick.”

According to Naveca, there is still “complete scope” for the Delta variant in Brazil.

Even with preliminary studies indicating higher transmissibility with lower micron lethality, the researcher says it still takes “a few more weeks to be certain what’s going on.”

According to him, in South Africa and the United Kingdom, where the population with the variant is younger and without a full vaccination schedule, there has been a rapid increase in the number of cases. He noted that “the data, so far, is preliminary.”

Felipe Navica sees vaccination against Covid-19 as advanced in Brazil, but said he is concerned about “pockets with low vaccination coverage”: “As in the interior of the Amazon, while in Manaus advanced, inland this is not when this happens, These pockets will allow the virus to spread, and as it spreads, it evolves, you have to be careful.”
