In an interview with CNN RadioVirologist and researcher at Fiocruz Amazônia, Felipe Naveca, has assessed that the cases identified so far of the Ômicron variant have mild symptoms and this could hinder the discovery of the new strain.

According to him, in South Africa and the United Kingdom, where the population with the variant is younger and without a full vaccination schedule, there has been a rapid increase in the number of cases. He noted that “the data, so far, is preliminary.”
Felipe Navica sees vaccination against Covid-19 as advanced in Brazil, but said he is concerned about “pockets with low vaccination coverage”: “As in the interior of the Amazon, while in Manaus advanced, inland this is not when this happens, These pockets will allow the virus to spread, and as it spreads, it evolves, you have to be careful.”
