Those who have not been vaccinated or cannot provide evidence of recovery will need to be quarantined for 10 days after arrival
Less than two months after opening its borders to US citizens, Germany has tightened travel restrictions again as Covid-19 cases have increased dramatically in the past two weeks. Therefore, visitors from Germany who have recently visited the United States will need to be fully vaccinated or show an “important reason” to enter the country, according to the USA Today.
Those who have not been vaccinated or cannot provide evidence of recovery will need to be quarantined for 10 days after arrival. The quarantine period could end on the fifth day with a negative Covid-19 test. All of these measures come because Germany acknowledged that “the tide has turned” in the US, where the new Delta variant has led to nearly a million new cases of Covid-19 in the past week.
Israel, Turkey, Vietnam and other countries have also been added to Germany’s high-risk list, joining destinations such as the United Kingdom, Spain, India, Mexico and Brazil. Meanwhile, the European Union has yet to remove the United States from its safe travel list, despite imposing travel bans on most European countries. Restrictions on the European Schengen Area were first implemented in March 2020.
