Ranking system Computer Science The prestigious Times Higher Education World University Rankings uses the same performance indicators, but restructured to give more weight to categories that are important to the field of study: teaching (30%), research (30%) and citations (27.5%). The rating considers, for example, the number of publications published in the past five years and the number of professors teaching and working in computer science.

1. University of Oxford
As well as being the world’s best university in the Times Higher Education overall rankings, Oxford also tops many subject-specific lists.
It is one of the oldest computer science departments in the UK, with course options in computational biology, quantum computing, information systems, software verification, software engineering and computational linguistics.
There are three degree options: Computer Science With respects; Mathematics and Computer Science; and computer science and philosophy.
2. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
MIT’s computer science department focuses on entrepreneurship. Encourages students to create startups and research projects that solve social problems, such as calculating the financial risks of renewable energy and the development of fast parallel computing.
Students have two main options: computer science or computer science and molecular biology.

3. Stanford University
Founded in 1965, Stanford’s Department of Computer Science offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees in a variety of fields, including robotics, artificial intelligence, programming systems, and scientific computing.

4. ETH Zurich
The Department of Computer Science at ETH Zurich was officially created in 1981, although the university already had a history of research into software development and computer systems.

5. Carnegie Mellon University
Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Computer Science has a 25-year history and pioneered the creation of America’s first artificial intelligence bachelor’s degree in 2018 and human-computer interaction bachelor’s degree in 2020.
