The Ukrainian nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhiaoccupied by Russia, has “lost connection” with the power grid again, but is still active thanks to a backup line, the International Atomic Energy Agency (International Atomic Energy Agency) announced on Saturday (3), which maintains a group of experts in place.
He explained that the last line still in operation was “damaged,” noting that the other three were “lost in the conflict.”
Ukrainian officials told the United Nations agency that the incident, similar to the one on August 25, occurred “in the wake of further explosions in the area”. Despite everything, the facilities continue to generate power “thanks to a backup transmission line,” the agency added.
On August 25, the plant, the largest in Europe, was completely separated from the Ukrainian network for the first time in history.
Six experts from the UN agency are currently at the plant and two of them will remain “on an ongoing basis” to “help stabilize the situation,” according to Aiea’s president, Rafael Grossi.
After inspecting the factory facilities, Grossi declared that her “physical integrity” had been “violated” and denounced the “unacceptable” situation.
In recent weeks, the complex has been the target of bombings in which the Russians and Ukrainians blame each other and have raised fears of a nuclear catastrophe.
