Bahia recorded 33 new cases of monkeypox this Wednesday (14), with a total of 101 cases of smallpox, according to a bulletin issued by the Strategic Information Center on Health Surveillance (Cievs) of the State Department of Health (Sesab). The last “Cysab” bulletin, issued on the eighth of the month, had indicated 68 cases. The percentage increase is about 48%.

There are 67 in Salvador; 6 in Vieira de Santana; 4 in Conceição da Feira; 3 in Lauro de Freitas; 3 in Vitoria da Conquista; 2 in Maracas; 2nd place in Santo Antonio de Jesus; 1 in Cairo; 1 in Conceição do Almeida; one center in Conceição do Coité; 1 in Conceição do Jacuípe; 1 in Ilhéus; 1 in Eriche; 1 in Itabella; 1 in armwab; 1 in Jwazeiro; 1 in mytoebi; 1 in BD Sera; 1 Teixeira de Freitas; and 1 in Xique-Xique.

In addition to the confirmed cases, Bahia has reported 392 suspected cases awaiting laboratory diagnosis and 24 other probable cases. The data may still change.

The state’s first case was recorded on July 13. The patient was a resident of Salvador and went to a private hospital with symptoms such as a high temperature, an enlarged gland – swollen glands in the neck – and a rash on the body. Then he was sent to home isolation.

Monkeypox is a zoonotic viral disease, of the genus Cordoviruses, of the family Poxviridae, which is similar to human smallpox, which was eradicated in 1980. The disease develops with fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, goiter, chills, and fatigue.

The infection is self-healing, with symptoms lasting 2 to 4 weeks, and can be divided into two periods: invasion, lasting between 0 and 5 days, with fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain and severe asthenia.

The rash begins between 1 and 3 days after the onset of fever and has similar clinical features to chickenpox or syphilis, with a difference in the regular development of the lesions.
