“Wish”: A 100th anniversary film that pays tribute to past productions

“Desire, the power of desires” It is the film that celebrates the 100th anniversary of Disney Studios.

It was in the studio classic that directors Chris Buck and Vaughn Vierasunthorn, it's the same “frozen”sought inspiration for creativity “he wishes.”

“We went back to our roots. We made a board with pictures of all the Disney movies. They're beautiful pictures and different boards, but they all have something in common,” says Chris Buck.

“We wanted to honor the legacy of our films, but also look to the future, to new generations,” says Fawn.

The name was inspired by Disney fans with producer Juan Pablo Reyes. “We ask people what a Disney movie makes you feel. People said ‘joy’ and ‘hope’… Then came ‘desire’ which was our guide to the movie.”

“Wish” takes place in the fictional kingdom of Rosas – an island between Africa and Europe where all wishes come true at first glance. When she discovers that the king is manipulating the dreams of his subjects, young Asha decides to challenge the king.

The flexibility of actress Ariana DeBose, who won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Role in 2022, for her role in the movie “Amor, Sublime Amor,” is what dictated the pace of the heroine. The animators took advantage of the actress's movements to put her in the character of “Asha.”

In Brazil, the actress voiced Asha Lucy greeting. The songs also had Portuguese language versions, sung by Solange Almeida, de Ferrero and Xande de Pilares.

Asha encounters the handsome and seductive King Magnificent, a character animated by Brazilian actor Renato dos Anjos. The inspiration came from another classic Disney villain – Cruella, from Sleeping Beauty.

“He has to be a charming character so that people, when they watch the film and the viewers, think that the whole city believes in this man. This comes from the magic that he has,” highlights Renato dos Anjos, animation supervisor.

The actor known for many heroes, Chris Pine, was this time on the other side of the story.

“A villain makes everything more interesting. It's not enough to look bad, he needs charm and the ability to attract sympathy and compassion to their side of the story. But, deep down, the great is an insecure man who needs his personality. The wife has to tell time that everything about him is good and beautiful.”
