A United Nations panel of experts warned this Friday (27) of “structural, institutional and systemic” racism in the UK, where people with African roots “have their fundamental rights undermined”.

“We are concerned about impunity and racial disparities in criminal justice, deaths during police arrests (…) and inhumane practices,” the group condemned.

“The austerity measures of the past decade have exacerbated the racism and intolerance suffered by Afro-descendants,” he added.

Experts issued the warning after recent visits to London, Birmingham, Manchester and Bristol.

The Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent was appointed by the UN Human Rights Council, but the UN Not speaking on behalf of.

In addition, he warned that black people in particular were suffering from the deterioration of public services, and that in the private sector, racial discrimination persisted.

“Racist behavior against people of Afro-descendant remains unchanged and is similar in different territories of the United Kingdom,” he insisted.

He lamented that black people were “victimized and not effectively protected by the authorities and the judicial system.”

A report by the University of Manchester and a leading British lawyer had already warned in October of “institutional racism” in the court systems of England and Wales.

In September, the group said it would present its recommendations to the UN Human Rights Council.
