“Israel may have carried out actions in Gaza that violate international law,” UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron said this Tuesday (9).

The report was released in response to questions from the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee.

Cameron said he was “concerned” about the conduct of the conflict against Hamas, adding that he had not seen any clear signs of possible violations.

Responding to MPs, Cameron also said two of the Israeli hostages held by Hamas in Gaza held British passports.

“There are still people with close ties to the United Kingdom as hostages and we are doing whatever we can to help,” he said, without specifying how many had been released.

On the other hand, the former British Prime Minister criticized South Africa's accusations at The Hague that Israel was committing genocide against Palestinians in the conflict.

“I don't think it's useful or fair. It's up to the courts, not the states, to define the term genocide. Our view is that Israel has the right to defend itself,” he said.

He also reinforced London's call for a “sustainable ceasefire”, including an end to Hamas rocket attacks against Israel.
