    The Embassy of the United Kingdom in Brazil is promoting a competition for women with dreams of leadership and learning about the country’s diplomatic work. The initiative aims to promote women’s participation in diplomacy and international agendas.

    According to the embassy, ​​to participate in the contest, a candidate must be between the ages of 19 and 29 and post a video of up to 1 minute on Instagram about what they want to be an ambassador for one day. Those interested should also follow and tag the embassy’s official profiles (@ukinbrazil @embaixadorabritanica).

    Applicants must post a video by March 12 and keep their social media account open for evaluation. In addition, name, age and place of birth must be provided.

    Yet according to the embassy, ​​the winner will be able to follow the routine of United Kingdom ambassador Stephanie Al-Khaq and experience the complexities and challenges of diplomacy.

    Women in Diplomacy

    According to data from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, currently the staff of diplomats consists of 1,540 civil servants, of whom 1,184 are men and 356 are women (23%).

    Irene Vida Gala, president of the Brazilian Association of Women Diplomats, said gender balance in diplomacy involves institutionalized mechanisms that guarantee more opportunities for women.
