This classic Jaguar from the 1960s can now go electric

EV conversion specialist Electrogenic has reinvented another classic as an all-electric model. Now there’s a 1960s Jaguar E-Type EV from Type 1 to Type 3 – in roadster or coupe styling. The company unveiled its latest conversion on Wednesday (31).

  • Electrogenic has released a kit capable of converting a 1960s Jaguar into an electric car;
  • The brand’s first convertible, revealed on Wednesday (31), was a 1962 Series 1 Roadster;
  • The company now offers complete and crossover-specific EV conversions and kits;
  • For Electrogenic co-founder Steve Drummond, handing over the kit marks the beginning of a new chapter for the company.

Jaguar isn’t the first turnaround in the company’s roster. Other cars include Land Rover Defenders and Series I to Series IIIs.

Jaguar Classic – and electric

The company unveiled its first Jaguar E-Type EV conversion: a 1962 Series 1 Roadster finished in a metallic blue-silver paint (see video above).

This conversion of the E43 is equipped with Electrogenic’s package, which consists of 43 kWh of new OEM batteries providing just over 150 miles of range.

For customers interested in more range, Electrogenic says Jaguar E-Type EV conversion kits include E48 and E63 options, offering 48kWh and 63kWh battery capacities, with a range of 257km and over 320km respectively. .

Electrogenic says it now offers custom-built Jaguar E-Type EV conversions, as well as the option to purchase the aforementioned coupling kit, which can be installed by any certified technician.

The electric motor is installed in the space vacated by the gearbox and batteries in the compartment where the engine block was and in the rear of the vehicle, where the fuel tank and spare wheel were. Long-range packages like the E63 store extra batteries behind the rear seats.

The kits fit directly into the vehicle’s existing bodywork, meaning they are fully reversible.

Electrogenic kept the classic dashboard but repurposed its ports for the modern EV era.

For example, the original fuel gauge now shows the charge status and the oil temperature gauge now shows the supercharger temperature.
