    After the Tokyo 2020 Olympics marked the first time in the Games’ history with near-equal representation of male and female athletes, when 48.8% of the participants were women, this year’s Beijing Winter Olympics followed suit. Fighting for Equality.

    There will be 45% of the female contestants out of the nearly 3,000 contestants. Compared to the last Winter Games held in Pyeongchang, a county located in South Korea’s Gangwon Province, the figure was 40%.

    With the establishment of mixed modalities, the number of women increased. Sports such as free skating, speed skating, snowboarding, and snowboarding have all contributed to reducing inequality.

    For the Paris 2024 Summer Games, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is striving to equalize the number of men and women.

    Brazil breaks the women’s record at the Winter Games

    Without a lot of tradition in winter sports, Brazil should hit an important mark in these Olympics, to hit a sports record. Among the 11 athletes who will represent the country in China, four are women: Jacqueline Mourau and Bruna Mora of cross-country skiing, Sabrina Cass of freestyle skiing, and Nicole Silvera of skeleton.

    In previous versions, the maximum number of Brazilian athletes was three.

    “It would be really nice to be inspiring other women to achieve anything, not just in sports, but I think…in life…in their dreams,” said Nicole Silvera.
