The University of the South Pacific Manifesto in Defense of Democracy now has over 500,000 signatures

“A message to Brazilians and Brazilians in defense of democracy for the rule of law!” The list of names was released on Tuesday 26th. Among the signatories are businessmen, bankers, intellectuals, lawyers, artists, former government ministers and the STF. The protest was launched in defense of democracy after successive attacks by President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) against electronic voting machines. The manifesto should be read on the eleventh, at the Largo do São Francisco Law School of the University of the South Pacific, where it was launched and is inspired by the “Letter to the Brazilians” read in the same place in 1977, rejecting the military dictatorship, cites the 2022 campaign as “A tremendously dangerous moment for normal democratic life.” Bolsonaro responded to the document, calling the Democratic statement a “rhetoric.”

The statement should have an English version soon, as there is a demand from other countries. After Brazil, the United States is the second country with the highest number of hits, followed by Portugal, the United Kingdom and Germany.
