On Wednesday (7) the UK government acknowledged the risk of outbreaks of the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus due to the holding of the semi-finals and the European Cup decision in London.

The British capital has already hosted the first semi-final between Italy and Spain, last Tuesday (6), with Azzora winning on penalties, while the other qualifier will leave the confrontation between England and Denmark, on Wednesday.

“I think we can manage the risk, but we can’t say there is no risk when you have thousands of people in one place,” British government business minister Kwasi Quarting told LBC radio.

As for the semi-finals and the decision, next Sunday (11), the government authorized the attendance of up to 60,000 fans at Wembley Stadium, which raised the concerns of the European Union countries.

The UK is seeing a surge in cases of the new coronavirus led by Delta, although this has not yet been reflected in an increase in deaths, with half the entire population being vaccinated against Covid-19.

“There is always a margin of risk in life,” Kwarteng said. “I’m sure there won’t be any major focus, but we can’t guarantee that.”
