The bot suffers a “nervous breakdown” during an interview and goes viral on the Internet; He watches

A video of an artificial intelligence (AI) robot conducting a live interview with a reporter went viral on Twitter last Wednesday (12). In the recording, Grace, a human created to work as a health aide, answered the interviewer’s questions calmly and slowly, but small details in her eye movement caught the web’s attention. Users have suggested that the bot may be on the verge of a “nervous breakdown”, or that it is “terrified” about something.

The clip spread on Twitter after it was posted on the official account of the Al-Jazeera news portal, and has so far garnered more than a million views. In the video, reporter Rory Chalands conducts the interview and asks questions to the robot, which takes a few minutes to formulate answers and blinks separately. The journalist and the robot were at the same face-to-face event.

In the video, Rory asks Grace to explain who she is, and the bot replies that she was created to “care and help”. Because of the delay in crafting the responses, Rory and Grace spoke at the same time at some moments of the interview, which was also noted by Twitter users. And in the comments of the video clip on social media, many made jokes about the way Grace blinks her eyes, while others stated that they were afraid of her.

“She’s about to have a nervous breakdown,” one person joked in the comments. “It will scare people,” another wrote. A third said, “These eyes need to be fixed.”

As the robot itself explained during the interview, it was developed in Hong Kong in collaboration and the work of researchers from different locations around the world. According to news portal DailyStar, the suggestion is that Grace is “the future of nursing” and can be used to primarily help the elderly or those in isolation and understaffed hospitals. No details are given of how this assistance will be provided in practice and what functions the robot can perform.

During the interview, Grace also answered a question often asked by many people who are interested in new AI technologies. When asked if she will take on human labor in the future, Grace states that she will not, and that her intention is only to help. “I am not destined to replace humans, but to help them,” the AI-powered robot concluded.
